Like father like daughter...

I LIVED! I survived through my third traithlon and I'm pretty proud of how easy it was (not super easy at all...but easier than I thought it would be.) It took me 1 hr and 40 mins to complete and it only took me 5 mins and 20 secs to finish the swim :) Now my father on the other hand finished in a little over an hour (the same time it took me about to finish the bike alone!) But he's the one to thank for getting me on this track and actually completing them. Also my WONDERFUL mommy who taught me how to swim and also motivated me :) I just wish my mom had been able to do it because I was number 364 and she would've been 365 so we would've been able to do the whole thing together (as long as she didn't leave me in the dust!) I'm thinking of doing the Monster Tri in October, but we'll see if I have the money to pay for it!

After a weekend of relaxation...

I went with Jake to Corpus this past weekend to spend some time with his parents and I had a wonderful time. It was extremely relaxing and I didn't work on homework the WHOLE time and didn't worry about anything. I loved every second of it. Poncho had fun, even though when we got home to San Marcos we had to give him an extensive bath because he picked up a decent amount of fleas :( While we're on the topic of my little man, he did fine through his dental cleaning and all his vaccines and exams. We were a little worried because he has a heart murmur and heart worms and it's a little risky to put him under anesthesia, but he did really well :)

Why don't we throw in a goal for today....

Today's Goal: Thou shall not go into depression because your artwork didn't get into the show.

I put my hands drawing into the Student Show the other day to see if I could get in, and I'm not gonna lie I was pretty darn positive about it that I would get it. How wrong I was. I checked and found out yesterday that I did not get in. And I got REAL down. All yesterday I let Satan whisper in my ear and tell me how bad of an artist I was and how delusional I was to think that I was good enough to compete with all these more amazing students in the program here at Txstate. But after reading my bible this morning I realized that I need to be comfortable with my art, and if I like what I made, then that's enough for me. I don't need to constantly impress others and show it off. And now I'm a lot better about it.

Here are two more shirts I've designed.

Hope you enjoy them :) Have a glorious day

A Budding Designer...

So I don't think I told all of you, but I got a second job as a clothing designer for a new site xchristianx.com. Now don't try to go look it up, because it isn't up quite yet. Sketchy? Yup, just a little. I'm the graphic designer for christian clothes. Now I'm approaching this job with the mindset that it's just a hobby right now, and I will gain no profit from it. And if i do? YIPPEE! If I don't? No feelings hurt. I'm getting "paid" on commission. So if I design a shirt, and it sells, I get 20% of the gross income it makes. AKA not a lot of money. Therefore I'm still working at satan's burger shop while doing my school work and designer a clothes line. Probably not the brightest idea, but I thought it would be fun. So far I've designed 2 shirts that I'd like to share with you! (yes it's only 2 shirts, but I've only been employed about a week, so not too bad)

Well, there they are! Hopefully you like them. And when(or if) they make it online and for sale you can buy them and make me a little moolah :) That's what I've got for you this afternoon. When I design more shirts I'll put them up. Have a joyous day.

Party Pooper

That's what I constantly feel like. A party pooper! I now have 2 jobs and trying to survive my mountains and mountains of homework. Unfortunately my teachers all like to pile on the assignments at the same time. Typical. The only upside of this hideous event is that I have things to show you all :) First we'll do the finals of my Wimberley Pie Company logo and paper system.

I had to do a business card, envelope (back and front) and then a letterhead. I am happy with how it turned out and now I have to come up with around 10 different other things for it. Like signs, hats, shirts, all kinds of things. Those thumbs are due monday.
Next is my class for the Devil. Our pre crit is today so we'll see how she likes them. But it was an ad campaign for the Austin Parks Foundation. These are my groups 3 ads.

Well there you go! All three pieces! Hopefully I get a better grade than last time, since I got a 70. :( i really really don't like her.
That's all I got for today. Have a glorious rest of the day :)

Pies and Princesses

So I finally have some work to show you. After working for literally 5 or 6 hours straight on homework last night I can show you some of the still not finished things I have going on :) First we'll do the stuff I'm doing for Corporate Identity and Packaging. Our assignment is to take a business, mine is Wimberely Pie Company, and create a new logo for them. After that we have to design a business card, letterhead, and envelope using the logo we created and whatever else we think it needs. So far I have a logo and two business card ideas.
Here is my logo I've got. It still might change because it already has changed almost completely and my teacher hasn't see this idea yet, so we'll see how it goes. Here's one business card idea...
more of a classy "gourmet" pie feel. And here's the other one...
This one is more of a southern homemade feel. We'll see how he feels about each of them. Specially the second one since it's not the right dimensions the business card is supposed to be because well, it's shaped like a pie.

So onto another class.Illustration. So far my favorite class of the semester. Now I'm sure Ashley has been waiting for a picture of this to go up so I hope she's happy with the results :) Here is my original pattern square.
Now here it is all put together and repeating
And I don't have the colors exactly right, but I've been messing with it since it's due thursday along with another half project for that same class. But here are the temporary colors. I would appreciate some feedback about them :)
YAY!! Actually I'd like feedback about everything I've posted so I can make them as good as I can. I have to have an online portfolio due by MArch 15 for an internship over the summer :/ AH! Well I'm going to go drink my coffee and play words with friends with my father :)
Have a glorious day!

Look, I'm a chef!

So as most people know, I am NOT known for my culinary expertise. Unlike my lovely sisters, i usually do not have the patience nor the natural skill they posses. But lately I have been going on All Recipes to find yummy really fast dinners for me and Jake so that I don't lose patience or get frustrated that they're too hard. :) One thing I made was actually from watching a Pillsbury commercial! Home made pizza rolls :) All you have to do is unfold the rolls, put mozzarella cheese and pepperonis inside, wrap them up and cook them for about 12 mins. (Or however long the package says) They are DELICIOUS! and healthier than buying pizza rolls and extremely less expensive. and not to mention SUPER easy :) I've also made Lemon Pepper chicken (too lemony actually) and Creamy tomato bacon pasta. Goodness Gracious was that pasta yummy. The recipe is here. Now I'm sure you can substitute things to make it healthier, but it's awesome just the way it is :) Last night I made Chicken Parmesan and this one I actually have a picture of.
YAY! it turned out absolutely scrumptious and I will definitely be making it again. I picked up a few more recipes off Allrecipes so I'll be making more things and remembering to document them. I'm so excited I can cook and that it's turning out good. Not to mention that Jake is loving this hopefully permanent phase I'm in right now.

As for my artwork I don't have anything completed to show you. I'm working on new logos for the Wimberley Pie Company but I'm not finished with them. Also for Illustration I'm really excited about what I'm working on. We're making our own patterns from our drawings. I've chosen to do two patterns. One for a children's store that's a boy theme and one that's a girl theme :) I'm about half way done with the boy one and the girl's i haven't started but I'm really excited for how it will turn out. And maybe they will be successful enough to actually be used for something. Like fabric or something. I tend to make my art with Lyla in mind so the girl pattern will be hopefully something my dear sister Ashley can use for her sweet girls. :)

Well, Poncho just threw up on the carpet so I'm guessing it's time to go. :( Have a very BLESSED day my sweet girls in my life. I love you!

Music and Work for the Devil...

I love music. I basically listen to it all day everyday either through my ipod, the radio, or pandora while I'm on a computer. (Which is all the time). I know my family has found out (some recently) about pandora and I thought I would share some of my favorite bands right now and Pandora stations. Most of these are extremely mellow and I listen to either when I'm falling asleep or doing homework. These I'm going to list are VERY good homework stations (Al and Ab) but I think my mommy and older sis will like them too. At least I'm hoping. :)

1. Thievery Corporation
2. Zero 7
3. Tycho

All of these are mostly just music, not a lot of words. The last one, Tycho, is a little funkier, but I still like it. If you put any of these as your Pandora station it'll be an AWESOME station. And they'll all probably come up on each other's station :)

4. Joshua Radin
5. Miles Davis
6. Massive Attack

These all are pretty much singers with words. Massive Attack is a little more upbeat (they're the people who sing the house theme song) But it's really good. I've been listening to their Pandora station for like a week straight now. I hope you guys find at least one station as a new fun thing to listen to out of those. I love getting new music from people so I love to share what I find too. :)

As for my art, I've finished my first project for the Devil teacher.

Hopefully you can zoom up a little bit. It's an ad for Giftcardlab.com. I'm hoping i don't have to tell you what that business does and maybe you can figure it out from my ad. If not, it's not a good ad. I'm not 100% satisfied with it, but I've sent it off to a guy who is the head of Graphic Design at GSD&M IdeaCity in Austin. (same place I'm PRAYING I get an internship). I hope he can give me some ideas on how to make it perfect for my portfolio.

Well this is all I have for today. Have a joyous day!
